It’s a hot day out in the noonday sun, but under the forest canopy a cool breeze stirs the undergrowth. The calls of mysterious, unseen birds echo through the trees as a traveller walks slowly along the path, his legs weary but his soul restored.
This painting was an exercise in trying to capture the spill of dappled, indirect sunlight piercing the foliage high above, sparkling off random leaves as it filters down into the undergrowth, contrasting with the deep shadows of purple and blue.
“Under the high canopy” is acrylic and acrylic ink on 61x81cm hardboard.
