From a memory of an early morning walk along the Hunter River, Newcastle, Australia. There were plenty of people out, the whole foreshore was alive with walkers and joggers. One thing that really caught my eye was a surf boat, rowing not out in the ocean but on the placid water of the harbour, and crewed by five elderly lifeguards, their oars propelling the heavy boat forward in perfect synchrony.
It was a moment I wanted to capture, and also an opportunity to experiment with a semi-random, expressive dawn sky full of light and subtle colour.
