I moved home over the last couple of weeks, and this is the first painting in my new light-bathed studio. It’s roughly based on the view from one of the many hills in my city (Canberra, Australia), a view which even as we speak is being progressively bulldozed to make way for new suburb.
What we’re doing to the world we’re living in breaks my heart – it’s almost as if we think we’re somehow above the very nature we’re destroying, rather than part of it and reliant on it for our survival. The concept of living in harmony with nature seems as unattainable as ever, but surely at some point we’ve got to stop relentlessly expanding until there’s nothing left but concrete parking lots?
The more I paint, the more of an environmentalist I become. I might go out for a walk & hug some trees now 🙂
