Continuing my theme of paintings inspired by the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, this one is reminiscent of the many lookouts deep in the mountains where the cliffs are tallest and the valleys are deepest, and is loosely based on the view from the Sublime Point lookout near Leura.
I shamelessly borrowed the title from the old broadway musical, as it really does feel like you can see forever with the cliffs marching into the distance, made hazy by the eucalyptus oil in the clear fresh air. I haven’t tried to capture the colours correctly, but instead went with what I felt would impart a dreamy, almost romantic feel.
I could have left the lookout empty, in fact I was tempted to as I didn’t want anything stealing the focus from the view, but the blank space with the handrail only posed questions. In the end I decided on a solitary figure, leaning on the railing and taking in the view & thereby directing your attention back to it.
