Painting – Mysterious Ways

The original of this acrylic painting on 61x46cm canvas is not currently available, but high quality limited edition prints can be purchased from my Bluethumb store.

This artwork was inspired by an afternoon walk along Curtin Ridge in Canberra in mid summer. At the top of the ridge, I left the path and climbed through a gap in the fence into the nearby pasture, where a view opened up to the west. The lowering sun was hidden by dark and dramatic cumulus, through which stray golden rays of light escaped to illuminate the countryside below.

This was actually one of my earlier paintings, one of my first real attempts at a landscape. I recently came back to it, feeling that I still loved the idea but found my original colours to be dull and uninspired. Hence I gave it a thorough reworking, to achieve the vision I had for the painting. Hopefully I captured some of the magic of what I felt and saw.
